Free Jazz, Puppetry and Flamenco Return to Hon-Atsugi MyLord
Hon-Atsugi MyLord, the roughly 160-shop commercial complex directly connected to Odakyu Hon-Atsugi Station, is turning late August into a free cultural program under the Atsugi Nigiwai-za banner. The centerpiece is MyLord Jazz Gate 2026 on August 20 and 21, with four acts per day and 21 jazz artists in total. Admission is free.
The program also includes a traditional puppet performance by Atsugi Higashi-za on August 23, with shows at 11:00 and 13:30, and a flamenco live set by the local group Los Vecinos on August 29. The events are organized with Atsugi City and Odakyu SC Development, the facility operator.
This year's new addition is a jazz stamp rally built around Atsugi City's digital local currency, Machi no Coin Ayumo. Participants download the Machi no Coin app and scan QR codes at four designated spots to collect coins. The release also mentions the city-run Atsugi Jazz Night 2026 taking place on the same day as MyLord Jazz Gate.
What the Ayumo Stamp Rally Reveals About the Mall's Local Strategy
Why a Shopping Mall Is Programming Jazz and Puppetry
Odakyu SC Development frames these events as part of a community co-existence effort: making its commercial facilities a point of contact between customers and the local area. For Hon-Atsugi MyLord, free performances are a low-cost way to generate a reason to visit, fill restaurant floors, and position the mall as a cultural venue rather than simply a retail block.
The Ayumo Stamp Rally Is a Small First
The new element is the integration of Atsugi City's digital local currency, Machi no Coin Ayumo. Visitors install the app, scan QR codes at four stops, and receive coins. The release does not specify the coin amount or whether it can be used like cash or only at certain shops. The mechanism still has two clear purposes: the city gains more residents installing and testing the currency, and the mall extends the event beyond its own buildings into the surrounding area.
What the Release Does Not Say
There are no attendance targets, coin values, or economic impact figures. The involvement of Atsugi City's cultural promotion division and cultural hall suggests a coordinated local-government and developer initiative rather than a commercial product launch. That keeps the relevance local: Atsugi residents, nearby visitors, and people already using or curious about Ayumo.
