Inside HeroTech's Wearable Spider-Man Web Shooter
Singapore-based maker team HeroTech has built a working, wearable replica of Spider-Man's wrist-mounted web shooter. The forearm device fires a web-like line from the wrist and, at the press of a button, uses an electric motor to automatically spool it back in. It is constructed from stainless steel, a web line, an electric motor and 3D-printed components, and it is compact enough to be pulled on over everyday clothing.
Inside the housing sit a rotating spool, a coreless electric motor, a lithium-polymer battery, a limit switch and a set of miniature gears. The hardest part of the build, according to HeroTech, was fitting the powered retraction system into such a small shell while keeping the controls under the user's fingers and the profile close to the forearm.
The team has made earlier Spider-Man-inspired web shooters, but the latest version was designed to more closely match the film prop. It was shown on HeroTech's YouTube channel around the time the Spider-Man movie posted a record opening weekend. The company also released the full design process and fabrication files so enthusiasts can build their own version.

The mechanical challenge is not firing a line — it is automatically retracting it inside a forearm-sized housing. HeroTech's solution uses a coreless motor, compact gear train and rotating spool, with a limit switch controlling the rewind. That trades some simplicity for a design that can sit discreetly on the wrist rather than in a larger external box.
Open-source distribution turns a viral demo into a community build
By sharing CAD files, 3D print models, a parts list and assembly instructions through Patreon, HeroTech converts a novelty reel into a project other makers can attempt. The approach also gives the team a subscriber base rather than a one-off product launch. The trade-off is that builders need access to a 3D printer and some assembly skill.
Wearability was treated as a design goal, not an afterthought
The device slides over clothing instead of using hidden straps or complicated attachment systems, and the controls sit close to the fingers. That makes it better suited to cosplay and demonstrations, though the source does not provide independent performance or durability data.
