NewsFormal exists to give business readers a fast, reliable picture of what is happening across the economy, and of what it could mean for them. We turn the day's reporting into concise briefs with context, so a reader can decide in minutes what deserves their attention.

2. Who We Write For

Owners, managers, investors, professionals and students who need to understand business, finance and industry without reading a dozen sites. We write in plain English and explain the jargon we cannot avoid.

3. What We Cover

Coverage is organised into 18 desks: economy, markets, companies, personal finance, technology, energy, automotive, insurance, real estate, health, politics, defence, retail, travel, agriculture, education, logistics and lifestyle. Politics and health are covered for their business and economic impact, not as general news.

4. How We Prioritise

Not everything can be a brief. We prioritise stories by:

• Consequence: how many readers, companies or markets a development affects, and how much.
• Signal: whether the story changes the risk or opportunity picture for a sector, which is why many briefs carry a risk and opportunity assessment.
• Timeliness: scheduled events such as central bank decisions, inflation data and major earnings are tracked in advance in our weekly calendar.
• Under-coverage: a smaller story in an under-reported sector can outrank a widely covered headline that adds nothing new.
• Reliability: stories we cannot trace to reliable reporting are not published, however tempting.
