Publication Principles
NewsFormal publishes short business-intelligence briefs for readers who make decisions with money, capital and time. These principles govern every brief we publish, across all 18 of our desks, from economy and markets to logistics and lifestyle.
Accuracy and Impartiality
We summarise reporting accurately, completely and without editorial spin. A brief tells the reader what happened, why it matters and what to watch; it does not tell the reader what to think, and it never recommends buying or selling anything.
Attribution and Transparency
Every brief that draws on third-party reporting names and links the original publisher in the source box at the foot of the article. We do not present other outlets' reporting as our own, and we do not strip context that changes the meaning of a story.
AI-Assisted Editing, Disclosed
Most NewsFormal briefs are drafted with the help of large language models and reviewed by our editorial desks before publication. AI helps us structure a brief, tighten its headline and draw out the risk and opportunity signals in a story. AI-assisted briefs are labelled as such at the bottom of the page, link to their original source, and are held to the same standards and the same Correction Policy as every other article.
Not Investment Advice
NewsFormal is a news publication, not a financial adviser. The risk and opportunity assessments that accompany many briefs are editorial context, not personalised recommendations. Readers should not make investment, credit or insurance decisions on the strength of a brief alone. See our Disclaimer.
Respect and Sensitivity
We respect the rights, privacy and dignity of the people and companies we cover. Allegations are reported as allegations, market rumours are labelled as rumours, and we take particular care with stories about layoffs, insolvencies, litigation and personal financial hardship.
Sector Attention
Our desks are organised by industry so that a reader in energy, real estate, insurance or agriculture can find the news that touches their sector without wading through everything else. Each desk is edited with that sector's vocabulary and priorities in mind.
Diversity and Inclusion
When a story involves different countries, cultures or communities we use language that is precise and respectful, and we avoid stereotypes in both text and imagery. Our full approach is set out in our Diversity Policy.
Separation of Advertising and Editorial
Advertising is clearly distinguishable from editorial content and has no influence on what we cover or how we cover it. Sponsored material, if any, is labelled. Details are on our Ownership, Funding and Advertising page.
Feedback and Correction
We welcome challenges to our reporting. When a reader points out an error or an omission, we verify the claim and correct the brief as quickly as we can, with a visible note explaining what changed. Write to [email protected].
