The win came just three weeks after a disappointing first-round exit at Wimbledon, where Rublev lost to compatriot Roman Safiullin. Moving from grass to clay seemed to suit him, as he rediscovered the consistency and power that once made him a top-10 regular.

Darderi, ranked two spots below the 16th-placed Rublev, was the defending champion and a dangerous opponent on clay. However, the match rarely looked in doubt. Rublev took control late in the opening set and broke early in the second, leaving the Italian visibly frustrated and unable to threaten on return.

For Rublev, this victory carries far more psychological weight than the 250 ranking points it awards. The title drought had stretched across 16 tournaments, a stark contrast to a player who often challenged the game’s elite. The straight-sets nature of the final, against a competent clay-court specialist on his own turf, suggests Rublev may be rounding back into form ahead of the North American hard-court swing.
