23.1 million tonnes of hazardous waste: behind the 2024 figures

Germany generated 23.1 million tonnes of hazardous waste in 2024, a 2.4% increase over the previous year, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The additional 0.5 million tonnes reversed a dip that had brought the 2023 total to 22.5 million tonnes – the lowest level recorded since 2015.
