The SGC reported that the event was felt as far as Contamana, Peru (516 km from the epicenter), and in the Ecuadorian towns of La Chonta (523 km) and Pucapamba (525 km). No immediate damage or injuries have been confirmed, and the SGC cautioned that magnitude and location estimates are preliminary and subject to revision.
While the quake was of moderate size, the region's position on the Pacific Ring of Fire means seismic activity is frequent.
