A Confessed Killing in Oeiras and a 21-Hour Delay
A 33-year-old Brazilian woman was found dead at her apartment in Oeiras, on the edge of Lisbon, after her 15-year-old son called the Public Security Police and surrendered on Thursday, Portuguese police said. The teenager confessed to strangling his mother and, according to the Judicial Police, he remained in the apartment with the body for roughly 21 hours before contacting authorities.
The victim's four-year-old daughter, the suspect's younger sister, was also in the home at the time of the killing. Neighbours took the child in after the incident, and she is receiving psychological support, the Judicial Police said. The Family and Minors Court will decide where the girl and the teenager will be placed.
Portuguese media identified the victim as Brazilian, and a neighbour told television crews she had revealed her nationality during a World Cup match. The suspect is also Brazilian and is currently in Public Security Police custody.
