Why 21,000 Simpala Clients Are Waiting for FGC Payments

On Friday, August 14, Brazil's Central Bank placed Simpala S.A. Crédito, Financiamento e Investimento into extrajudicial liquidation — a process in which the central bank appoints a liquidator to wind down the institution. The Fundo Garantidor de Créditos then told clients that payment of the deposit guarantee has not yet begun and will only start after the liquidator completes the creditor survey and sends the official list to the fund.

The affected base is estimated at 21,000 creditors with covered deposits totaling R$622 million. Eligible claimants can receive up to R$250,000 per person under the ordinary guarantee, within the limits set by FGC rules.

The FGC's immediate instruction is for creditors to complete a basic registration in the official FGC app for Android and iPhone. In a second stage, after the fund receives the official creditor list, beneficiaries will be able to request payment, confirm their identity and provide a bank account in their own name.

Simpala has a 50-year history and at least four financial services companies. Simpala Financeira and Simpala Consórcios had their activities closed by the Central Bank, while Simpala Promotora and Simpala Seguros remain part of the group. The FGC is a private non-profit funded by monthly contributions from member institutions.

How the FGC Reimbursement Process Will Unfold for Simpala Creditors

The FGC Payment Process Has Two Distinct Stages

What is clear from the FGC's statement is that no reimbursement has started. The first stage is creditor registration in the official app; the second stage opens only after the liquidator transfers the official creditor list to the fund. The sequencing means the likely bottleneck is the liquidator's data collection, not the customer's registration — but registering now removes one future delay.

What the R$250,000 Cap Means for the 21,000 Creditors

The FGC says covered deposits total R$622 million across an estimated 21,000 creditors. As a simple arithmetic average, that is roughly R$29,600 per creditor. This suggests many claims are well below the R$250,000 ceiling and that the cap matters mainly for larger depositors. The distribution of balances is not public, so the average cannot identify who will receive the maximum.

Why the Simpala Group Structure Matters

The Central Bank's action closes Simpala Financeira and Simpala Consórcios, but Simpala Promotora and Simpala Seguros remain separate businesses. The FGC's statement addresses covered deposits at the liquidated institution; it does not automatically extend the same protection to other group products such as insurance or credit intermediation. Clients with products elsewhere in the group should not assume they are covered by this process.

What Simpala Clients Should Do Now to Speed Up Their Guarantee

If you hold covered deposits at Simpala Financeira, the FGC's guidance points to three specific actions:

  • Download the official FGC app now from the Android or iPhone store and complete the basic registration. The FGC says this is the first step, even before payments begin.
  • Prepare your identity document and a bank account in your own name. In the second stage, you will confirm your identity and provide that account to receive the guarantee.
  • Follow only official FGC channels. Payment has not started; the next milestone is the release of the payment request after the liquidator sends the official creditor list.
  • Remember the R$250,000 cap per person. The ordinary guarantee does not cover amounts above that limit.
