Ecuador Announces the Loss of Stefano Noboa Valbonesi

Ecuador's first lady, Lavinia Valbonesi, has lost the couple's third child, Stefano Noboa Valbonesi, after an emergency medical intervention prompted by a complication during pregnancy, the government announced Saturday.

Minister Nataly Morillo said Valbonesi required emergency surgery and that, unfortunately, Stefano died. Several senior officials, including Education Minister Gilda Alcivar, National Assembly President Mishel Mancheno and Labour Minister Cynthia Gellibert, offered public condolences. The presidential flag at Carondelet Palace in Quito will fly at half-staff for three days.
