NASA Unveils First New Wind Tunnel in Over 40 Years

NASA is preparing to open the Flight Dynamics Research Facility at its Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia — the agency's first major new wind tunnel in more than 40 years. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and media tour are scheduled for Friday, July 31, with Administrator Edward C. Forst in attendance.

The state-of-the-art tunnel marks a significant upgrade to NASA's aging testing infrastructure. Designed to simulate the flight dynamics of a wide range of vehicles, it will support research on next-generation aircraft, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) concepts, and the aerodynamic challenges of spacecraft reentry.
