Two Concepts Take the Stage at Roadkill Nights
Chrysler presented two customized Pacifica minivan concepts at the Roadkill Nights event in Pontiac, Michigan, part of the Woodward Dream Cruise weekend. The concepts aim to show that practical family vehicles can also be stylish and personal.
The first, a collaboration with VanKulture, is wrapped in satin red and features VIS Racing aero parts including a front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, and spoiler. It sits 2.5 inches lower on Megan Racing adjustable coil-overs and 20-inch Vossen wheels, with upgraded Rotara brakes, smoked lights, and a MagnaFlow exhaust. The second, a Diamond Black Pacifica Limited AWD with the S Appearance Package, rides on 21-inch Geode wheels, has black brake calipers, a one-inch drop, and new exterior stripes, showing a simpler path to customization.
“Pacifica has always been about making life easier for families, and these two concepts show customers can make their minivan their own, stand out and have some fun,” said Matt McAlear, Chrysler CEO. He noted that one-third of Pacifica buyers already choose the S Appearance Package, indicating appetite for a custom look. Despite a shrinking minivan market, Chrysler forecasts 18% segment growth over the next five years.
Behind Chrysler's Bet on Minivan Personalization
The Pull of the S Appearance Package
The fact that a third of buyers pick the S Appearance Package suggests that even in a practical segment, styling matters. By offering factory-backed mods like lower ride height, unique wheels, and blacked-out trim, Chrysler is turning a family hauler into a more expressive vehicle. These concepts push that further with coil-over suspension and aero bodywork, potentially leading to a broader Mopar or accessories catalog.
Targeting a Younger Demographic
Chrysler is explicitly aiming at younger minivan customers. The collaboration with VanKulture and the reveal at a street-legal drag racing event signals that the brand wants to shed the minivan’s stodgy image. If more buyers see the Pacifica as a canvas for personalization, it could help Chrysler capture a slice of the 18% forecasted segment growth, especially as competitors exit the market.
