Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the next-generation GLA compact SUV, adding a range of fully electric and hybrid powertrains alongside a design that borrows luxury cues from its larger, more expensive models. The revamped model, which is slightly lower, longer and wider, launches with three electric variants and a petrol hybrid set to follow in 2027.
Among the electric line-up, the rear-wheel-drive GLA 250+ stands out with a claimed range of up to 408 miles (657 km) on the WLTP cycle, powered by an 85 kWh NMC battery and a 268 bhp motor. The entry-level GLA 200 uses a 58 kWh battery and 222 bhp, while the all-wheel-drive GLA 350 4Matic delivers nearly 350 bhp and accelerates from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds. All electric versions feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, which should enable faster charging – Mercedes has yet to publish official DC fast-charging times.
The GLA also gains the illuminated grille previously reserved for the brand’s flagship models, complete with animated micro-LED lighting and chrome details, and rides on wheels up to 20 inches in diameter. Inside, an optional MBUX Superscreen combines a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central touchscreen, and a 14-inch passenger display. A 1.5-litre petrol hybrid with a 1.3 kWh battery and electric-only driving capability will join the range in 2027, underscoring Mercedes’ dual-track approach in the compact premium segment.
