OMODA O5 SHS-H hybrid saloon to launch in UAE this September

OMODA & JAECOO will launch the OMODA O5 SHS-H hybrid saloon in the UAE this September, adding a third body style to its local electrified line-up and marking another step in the brand’s rapid expansion. The Chinese marque, which has already surpassed 5,000 vehicle sales in the Emirates, operates seven showrooms and a regional spare-parts hub in Jebel Ali, giving it a growing aftersales footprint.

At the heart of the O5 SHS-H is a dedicated 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission and a high-performance battery. Combined output is 224HP and 310Nm of electric-motor torque, sending the car from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Fuel efficiency is a headline figure: WLTP combined range reaches 1,000 kilometres. The system offers selectable Eco and Sport modes, while thermal efficiency of the petrol engine is quoted at an impressive 44.5%.

The car adopts OMODA’s “Art in Motion” design language with a bold matrix grille and crossover stance, targeting younger, tech-oriented buyers. Safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot detection and lane-keeping assist. The vehicle has been tested in temperatures from -30°C to +60°C, a nod to the UAE’s extreme summer heat.

What the O5 SHS-H brings to the UAE hybrid market

OMODA & JAECOO’s hybrid push

The O5 SHS-H is the latest in a wave of electrified models from the Chery-owned brand. It will sit alongside the upcoming OMODA O4 and O7, as well as the JAECOO J5 and J7 SHS, giving the company a multi-segment hybrid offering in the UAE. That product cadence underscores a strategic bet that hybrid powertrains – rather than pure battery-electric vehicles alone – are the most practical near-term path for Middle Eastern buyers balancing fuel costs and range confidence.

Competing in the UAE’s growing hybrid segment

The UAE’s hybrid passenger-car market is expanding, with established Japanese and Korean brands already offering hybrid saloons and crossovers. The O5 SHS-H’s 1,000 km range claim beats most current mainstream hybrids and rivals some diesel saloons, addressing a genuine pain point for drivers covering long distances between emirates. The 224HP output and 7.9-second 0-100 km/h time also position the car as more spirited than the economy-focused hybrid norm, potentially appealing to buyers who want efficiency without sacrificing performance. However, the brand’s relatively short track record in the region means real-world reliability and resale value will be closely watched.

Practical considerations for UAE buyers eyeing the O5 SHS-H

For UAE buyers considering the O5 SHS-H when it arrives in September:

  • Range and running costs: A 1,000 km tank range could significantly reduce refuelling stops on regular Dubai-Abu Dhabi commutes or Northern Emirates trips. Ask the dealer for real-world fuel-consumption data specific to UAE driving conditions rather than relying solely on WLTP figures.
  • Aftersales and warranty: OMODA & JAECOO now runs seven UAE showrooms and a Jebel Ali parts centre. Clarify the warranty terms – particularly hybrid component coverage – and the availability of service appointments in your area before committing.
  • Test the technology: The suite of driver-assistance features (ACC, AEB, BSD) and the planned Super Intelligent Valet Parking function should be tested on a test drive to gauge real-world usability in crowded mall car parks and multi-level parking facilities.
