Brother Industries, the Japanese electronics and industrial equipment group, has been awarded the Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association Award at the 56th Machine Industrial Design Award IDEA, organised by The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. The prize specifically recognised the company’s SPEEDIO U500Xd2-100T, a universal compact machining centre that is now the most tool-capable model in the SPEEDIO series.

The SPEEDIO line targets machining of mechanical parts for electric vehicles, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, aircraft components and other precision workpieces. The newly honoured model integrates a front magazine with 28 tools and two side stockers holding 36 tools apiece, enabling a total of 100 tools to be loaded simultaneously. When combined with an optional pallet changer, the machine can support up to 40 pallets for extended unmanned operation, significantly reducing downtime in high-mix, low-volume production runs.
