Latécoère and Hynaero Unveil Fregate-F100 Partnership

French aerostructures specialist Latécoère has signed a partnership with Hynaero to support the development of the Fregate-F100, an amphibious firefighting aircraft designed to break the long-standing market dominance of Canadian-built water bombers. The two companies announced the collaboration on Thursday, as wildfires continued to rage in southwestern France.

Under the agreement, Latécoère will provide technical exchanges, consultancy on design, certification, maintainability, and sales promotion to global customers. Hynaero, based in Istres near Marseille, is finalising the aircraft’s design with a target entry into service in 2031. The Fregate-F100 will be capable of scooping 10,000 litres of water in a single pass—making it the highest-capacity amphibious water bomber on the market.

The project is expected to generate more than 2,500 direct jobs and addresses a pressing need to modernise Europe's ageing firefighting fleets, which currently rely on Canadian CL-415 and CL-215 models. Hynaero’s president, David Pincet, said the alliance with Latécoère would accelerate development and “offer a modern, high-performance alternative to the ageing fleets currently in service.”
