From Art Criticism to Content Marketing
Luka Bestavashvili, a university student specialising in art criticism, always wondered how effective communication is built and how a well-shaped idea travels to an audience. That curiosity led him to Content Marketing, a completely different discipline, which he studied at the Tbilisi Communication School under a fully funded scholarship from Bank of Georgia.
The scholarship, part of the bank's broader professional education programme, allowed Bestavashvili to focus entirely on the coursework without financial pressure. He emphasises that the goal was never to switch professions, but to acquire a skill set that could strengthen his primary work. "Today I pay far more attention to how content is created, the logic behind it and how it is tailored to a specific audience," he says, noting that the ability to structure and share knowledge is as vital in daily life as it is in any profession.
Bestavashvili now plans to complete his university degree, apply what he has learned in practice, and gradually develop the directions that interest him most. His advice to others pondering a new skill: "Don't be afraid to acquire new knowledge. Sometimes one new experience is enough to see your own work from a different angle or discover completely new possibilities."
The Value of a Professional Scholarship
Why a Bank Invests in Content Marketing Skills
Bank of Georgia is one of the country's largest financial institutions and has positioned itself as a major supporter of education. Its professional academy scholarships target practical, current disciplines such as digital marketing, software development and design. By funding courses outside traditional academic degrees, the bank addresses a gap in the local labour market where formal education often lags behind the concrete skills employers demand.
For a student like Bestavashvili, whose main field is the humanities, a scholarship in Content Marketing is a low-risk way to build a commercially relevant skill. The combination of art history expertise and modern communication tools is not as unlikely as it might appear: galleries, museums, auction houses and independent curators increasingly rely on digital storytelling to reach audiences. The ability to craft a narrative around a collection or an exhibition can differentiate a professional in a crowded cultural sector.
For Students Considering a Career Pivot
The scholarship programme Bestavashvili used is one of several vocational grants managed by Bank of Georgia in partnership with professional academies across the country.
