Amman Bourse Gains 0.53% Led by Industrial and Financial Sectors
The Amman Stock Exchange ended Wednesday’s session higher, with the general index climbing 21 points, or 0.53%, to 3,978.68. The advance was driven by strong performances in the industrial and financial sectors, while the services index slipped into negative territory.
Trading volumes shrank to 7.75 million shares from 9.41 million in the previous session, and the value of traded shares fell to 16.2 million Jordanian dinars from 19.04 million dinars. The industrial index surged 1.52%, the financial index added 0.67%, but the services index declined 0.56%.
Sector Rotation on Display as Industrials and Insurers Outperform
Pesticides and Phosphate Fuel Industrial Surge
The industrial sector’s 1.52% jump was almost entirely attributable to two heavyweight stocks. Arab Pesticides and Veterinary Drugs Manufacturing (MBDECO) soared 4.46%, while Jordan Phosphate Mines gained 2.36%. The moves suggest concentrated buying interest rather than broad-based sector momentum.
Insurance Stocks Provide Mixed Support for Financials
The financial index’s 0.67% rise was buoyed by insurance names. Jordan Insurance advanced 4.32% and Al-Awwal Insurance added 3.03%. However, the sector’s upside was capped by National Insurance, which dropped 4.9%, making it the biggest decliner in the first market. Gains in select insurers outweighed the drag, keeping the index positive.
Services Lag Despite JETT’s 7% Jump
The services sector fell 0.56%, pressured by Salam Transport’s 4.17% decline and a 1.41% dip in Jordan Petroleum Refinery (JoPetrol). Those losses more than offset a 7.06% surge in Jordan Tourism Transport (JETT), which led all first-market gainers. The divergence within services points to stock-specific pressures rather than a thematic sector sell-off.
Market Signals for Traders Tracking Amman's Movers
For traders, the day’s action shows that index gains are narrowly driven. MBDECO and Jordan Phosphate Mines remain the industrial leaders to watch; any corporate news or technical signals around these names could extend or reverse the move. The fall in trading volumes alongside the price advance deserves caution—watch for confirmation in subsequent sessions. In financials, insurance stocks are volatile; National Insurance’s sharp drop suggests potential profit-taking after recent strength.
