Turkish Lira and Gold Open Higher: July 27 Market Data
The Turkish lira began the week with minimal changes against major currencies. As of 09:50 local time, the dollar/lira pair stood at 47.3630, up 0.1% from Friday’s close. The euro edged up 0.1% to 54.1020 lira, while sterling climbed 0.3% to 63.3150 lira.
Gold opened on a firmer footing. Gram gold, which ended the previous session at 6,167 lira, rose 1.12% to 6,237 lira early on Monday. Quarter gold reached 10,244 lira and republic gold traded at 40,825 lira.
The move higher was powered by a 1% rise in international spot gold to $4,095 an ounce. An easing of tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East helped underpin the positive tone in the precious metal.
What’s Moving Gold and the Lira on July 27
Why Gold Rose Despite Easing Tensions
The reduction in US-Iran hostilities was cited as a key factor behind gold’s uptick. Rather than triggering a sell-off, the de-escalation was seen as removing an extreme tail risk, allowing the metal to build on existing positive momentum. With the global ounce price reclaiming $4,095, the lira-denominated gram gold benefited both from the international move and from the relative stability of the currency, pushing it firmly above the 6,200-lira mark.
