Soriano Joins Obradoiro After Stints in Spain and Germany

Spanish basketball side Monbus Obradoiro has reinforced its interior game by signing Dominican center Joel Soriano, the club announced on Wednesday. The 26-year-old, who stands 2.08 meters tall, arrives in Santiago de Compostela after a season that saw him compete in both Spain and Germany.

Soriano spent the early part of the 2025-26 campaign with Valencia Basket and Casademont Zaragoza in the Liga Endesa before finishing the year at ratiopharm Ulm. In 12 German Bundesliga appearances, he posted averages of 9.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in just 16.6 minutes per contest, demonstrating his ability to make an impact in limited time.

Born in Yonkers, New York, Soriano played college basketball at Fordham and St. John’s, where he earned a reputation as one of the Big East’s most reliable interior presences. A full international for the Dominican Republic, he began his professional career in the NBA G League and Puerto Rico before moving to Europe. Obradoiro described him as a player who “stands out for his rebounding dominance, presence in the paint, and ability to bring energy on both ends of the floor.”

Obradoiro are adding a physical big man with proven European experience. Soriano’s stint in Ulm showed that when given minutes, he can score efficiently near the basket and control the defensive glass. His per-36-minute stats in Germany translate to roughly 21 points and 9 rebounds, highlighting his productivity in short bursts.

Having already played for two Liga Endesa clubs last season, Soriano knows the rhythm and physical demands of Spanish basketball. The move to Obradoiro gives him a clearer role and the chance to be a focal point in the rotation, something that was harder to secure in deeper squads at Valencia and Zaragoza. For the club, his signing addresses a need for interior depth and rebounding as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
