Crew-13 Press Schedule and Mission Preview
NASA and its partners will hold two back-to-back news conferences on Monday, Aug. 3, from the Johnson Space Center in Houston to outline the upcoming SpaceX Crew-13 mission. The first, at noon EDT, will feature mission leadership briefing the overall objectives and status of the flight. Two hours later, the four crew members will take questions about their training and preparations in what is expected to be their final media appearance before heading to Kennedy Space Center for launch.
The mission marks the second spaceflight for NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins, who becomes the first NASA astronaut to launch aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft twice. She will be joined by first-time fliers Luke Delaney of NASA, Joshua Kutryk of the Canadian Space Agency, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov. The quartet will lift off no earlier than mid-September from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station atop a Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station.

Each astronaut brings specialized experience that reflects the modern demands of low-Earth orbit missions. Watkins, a geologist who worked on the Curiosity rover team, adds scientific continuity to NASA’s corps. Delaney’s test pilot background and Teteryatnikov’s naval engineering expertise underscore the operational rigor required for spacecraft rendezvous and station upkeep. Kutryk, a former CF-18 fighter pilot and test pilot, rounds out an international team that will perform research and maintenance during a typical six-month rotation.

The Crew-13 announcement is notable precisely because it is routine. After the earlier disruptions of crew transport contracts, SpaceX’s Dragon has become a dependable workhorse for regular crew swaps. The steady cadence of missions – with no new vehicle or major policy shift – signals that multinational ISS operations have settled into a reliable rhythm, reducing the risk of gaps in staffing and enabling long-term research planning.
