NBB and Turkish Airlines Launch 20% Flight Discount

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has struck a partnership with Turkish Airlines to offer a flat 20% discount on flights for all its credit and debit cardholders. The offer, redeemable exclusively through the bank’s “NBB Points” app, covers business trips, family holidays and other international travel. Selected benefits will also be extended to NBB employees and their families, the bank said.

The deal adds a travel perk to NBB’s existing package of retail, dining and entertainment discounts, as the lender works to make its card products stickier in a competitive market. Subah Abdullatif Al Zayani, chief executive of retail banking at NBB, called the partnership a way to deliver “tangible value” that aligns with customers’ travel habits both within Bahrain and abroad.

While the announcement highlights the headline 20% saving, the fine print – such as eligible routes, booking windows, fare classes and blackout periods – was not disclosed. Cardholders will need to check the app for full terms.

Why This Bank-Airline Deal Matters for Customers

NBB and Turkish Airlines: Mutual Benefits, but Terms Matter

The partnership is a low-risk, high-visibility marketing move for both sides. For NBB, attaching a well-known global airline brand to its loyalty programme can reduce card churn and attract new customers who value travel perks. Turkish Airlines, meanwhile, gains direct access to Bahrain’s banking customer base through the bank’s app, potentially boosting bookings on routes where it competes with Gulf carriers.

Consumers should note, however, that airline partnerships often come with restrictions: the discount may apply only to the base fare, exclude promotional fares, or be limited to certain booking classes and seasons. The real saving will depend on the route and how the 20% is applied relative to publicly available fares. Cardholders comparing final prices before booking will get the truest measure of value.

How to Make the Most of the New NBB Perk

  • Open the NBB Points app and log in to see actual discount offers on specific routes and travel dates.
  • Before booking, compare the discounted price with standard fares on Turkish Airlines’ website and other travel platforms to confirm the 20% reduction is genuine.
  • Check for blackout dates, advance purchase requirements and fare-class restrictions, as these typically limit the savings on peak travel periods.
