Congress MP Moves Adjournment Motion Over Ram Temple Donation Fraud Claims

Congress MP KC Venugopal on Friday moved an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, seeking the suspension of regular business to discuss what he described as “shocking revelations of massive financial fraud” at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the body managing the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Venugopal alleged that bundles of cash and valuable jewellery donated by millions of citizens have been systematically siphoned off. He further claimed that 7 to 8 months of crucial CCTV footage had been deliberately destroyed to cover up the irregularities, and that a former chief accounts officer who had flagged these issues as early as 2020-21 was “unceremoniously removed.”

The Congress MP dismissed the ongoing investigation by the Uttar Pradesh government as a “mere eyewash,” arguing that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed on June 13 and the subsequent FIR on June 25 appeared to target only low-level outsourced staff while shielding powerful individuals who masterminded the multi-crore embezzlement. He demanded an independent, high-level inquiry under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge.

On July 27, the Uttar Pradesh government informed the Supreme Court that it had constituted a fresh SIT headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kiran S to probe the alleged embezzlement. Eight accused have been arrested so far, and investigators are now tracing the complete money trail to identify additional assets and beneficiaries.
