UE Names Dan Reiner VP of Underwriting

United Educators (UE), a reciprocal insurer serving educational institutions, has named Dan Reiner as its Vice President of Underwriting effective September 8. Reiner joins from Chubb, where he spent nearly two decades rising from underwriting trainee to senior leadership roles.

UE President and CEO Rick Mills described Reiner as combining “technical underwriting expertise with a collaborative leadership style and experience navigating an increasingly complex risk landscape.” He stressed that the appointment would strengthen UE’s ability to provide schools, colleges and universities with the underwriting and partnership they depend on amid new and evolving challenges.

At Chubb, Reiner most recently served as Senior Vice President, Territory Underwriting Manager, where he led underwriting strategy for complex casualty, technology, cyber and emerging risks. He developed new insurance products and managed financial results across two geographic regions and the North American Lower Middle Market technology portfolio. He also held the role of Senior Vice President of Casualty Underwriting, overseeing Chubb Commercial’s middle market casualty practice and an E&O/Cyber portfolio.

What the Hire Means for Education-Focused Insurance

A Cyber and Emerging Risk Specialist for Schools

Reiner’s background is notably weighted toward the very exposures that are top-of-mind for educational institutions today. His deep experience in cyber and technology risk underwriting—developed across Chubb’s commercial and middle market segments—comes as schools and universities face rising ransomware attacks, data breach costs and regulatory pressure. UE’s member institutions will likely see more sophisticated coverage solutions and refined underwriting approaches for these digital and emerging liability risks.

Continuity with a Chubb Pedigree

The appointment also brings operational DNA from one of the largest and most data-driven carriers. Reiner’s track record of managing financial results across broad portfolios and developing new products suggests UE aims to sharpen its underwriting discipline while remaining tightly focused on the education sector. For a reciprocal insurer where members are also owners, the emphasis on steady, thoughtful underwriting—not merely growth—aligns with the CEO’s statement about “trusted partnership.”
