India's Day 7 Medal Haul Led by Record Sprint

India's track and field athletes delivered the standout moment on day seven of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as Dilip Mahadu Gavit stormed to gold in the men's T47 100 metres in a Games record time of 10.71 seconds. Fellow Indian Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth claimed the silver in 10.83 seconds, with England's Kevin Santos taking bronze. The one-two finish lifted India's medal tally to 15 after a week of competition.

Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar added a second silver to his personal collection, matching his result from the 2022 Games. The 27-year-old recorded a best leap of 8.09 metres, finishing behind Jamaica's Tajay Gayle (8.15m) and just ahead of Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie (8.08m). Sreeshankar became the first Indian man to win two Commonwealth Games medals in the long jump.

The evening also brought encouraging results in boxing, where six Indian pugilists moved into the semifinals, meaning the country is guaranteed at least six more medals. Sakshi Choudhary (51kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg) and Narender Berwal (90+kg) all won their quarterfinal bouts.

Elsewhere, Manpreet Kaur finished fourth in the women's shot put, while national record holder Parul Choudhary placed fifth in the 3000m steeplechase. India's medal count at the close of day seven stood at three gold, nine silver and three bronze.

Campaign So Far and What the Boxing Run Means

India's Medal Tally and the Path Ahead

With 15 medals already secured, India is on track to surpass its haul from Birmingham 2022, when the team finished with 61 medals. The three golds so far have come from weightlifting and para athletics, while the silver medals have been spread across athletics, weightlifting and para events. The depth of the boxing squad, with six semifinalists, suggests a strong finish in the second week of competition.

What the Boxing Surge Signifies

The large contingent of boxers reaching the semifinals is not unusual for India at the Commonwealth level, but the range of weight categories represented suggests the team is maintaining its pipeline ahead of major multi-sport events. Two women's and four men's semifinal berths give India multiple shots at gold, though the athletes will face stiffer competition from England, Australia and Canada in the medal rounds.
