Third Batch of 2026 Tax Refunds Released
Brazil’s Federal Revenue (Receita Federal) deposited the third batch of 2026 income tax (IR) refunds on July 31. The payment covers taxpayers who submitted their returns without errors, as well as remaining individuals in the legally mandated priority groups – the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those whose main income source is teaching, among others.
Earlier batches were paid at the end of May and June. The refund goes directly to the bank account specified by the taxpayer in the original declaration. The full refund calendar runs through December, with a new batch typically released on the last business day of each month.
Taxpayers can check whether they are included in a batch by visiting the official Receita Federal website (www.gov.br/receitafederal) and logging in with a Gov.br account. After authentication, the “Meu Imposto de Renda” page shows the refund status and any pending issues that might delay payment.

Who Gets Paid in the Third Batch?
This batch focuses on two groups: filers whose returns were processed without discrepancies, and members of the priority queue who were not cleared in the earlier May and June cycles. The priority groups are defined by law – seniors over 60, individuals with a serious illness or physical/mental disability, and teachers – and usually receive refunds ahead of the general population. Because eligibility within each batch is determined by the processing date and the completeness of the return, some priority filers may appear only in later batches if their declarations required manual review.
Future Batches and the Refund Schedule
After the third batch, four more are scheduled through December (August, September, October, November, December – all on the last business day of the month). Each batch progressively covers taxpayers who filed later in the season or whose returns had minor inconsistencies that were resolved. There is no action required from the taxpayer between batches; the system automatically re-evaluates pending returns and includes them when cleared.
What Happens If a Refund Sits Unclaimed for a Year?
A refund that is not withdrawn within one year of the deposit does not disappear, but the taxpayer must actively request its release. The process is done through the Virtual Taxpayer Service Center (Portal e-CAC) after logging in with a Gov.br account. From the menu, navigate to “Declarações e Demonstrativos,” then “Meu Imposto de Renda,” and select the option to request an unclaimed refund. After that, the amount is re-credited to the same bank account – provided the account details are still valid.
Steps to Secure Your Refund
- Check your status now: Log into “Meu Imposto de Renda” on the Receita Federal site with your Gov.br account. The system displays whether your refund is processed, held, or still queued for a future batch.
- Keep your bank information current: If you have switched banks or closed the account listed on your declaration, update it immediately through the same portal to avoid a failed deposit.
- Mark the next batch dates: The fourth batch is expected around August 31, 2026. Setting a reminder can help you confirm whether you have been included as the year progresses.
- Retrieve a stale refund: If more than one year has passed since the deposit without you collecting it, access the e-CAC portal and follow the path: “Declarações e Demonstrativos” > “Meu Imposto de Renda” > “Solicitar restituição não resgatada na rede bancária.” The refund will be re-credited once your bank details are verified.
