A small but intriguing clinical trial suggests that when you eat might matter as much as what you eat when it comes to preserving brainpower in later life. Researchers followed 47 women aged 50 to 79, all overweight or living with obesity, for six months. Every participant cut 500 calories from their daily intake, but one group faced an extra rule: finish all meals inside an eight- to nine‑hour window, typically from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The other group ate over a more conventional 12‑hour span.

Both groups lost roughly the same amount of weight — about 15 pounds. Yet the time‑restricted eaters scored significantly better on tests that measure planning, decision‑making and the ability to solve everyday problems. A smaller boost was seen in memory and learning tasks, but that improvement didn't reach statistical significance.
